‘The sustainability of aquatic resources and aquaculture in the framework of the blue economy’ will be the central slogan of this international forum, which already has more than 6,000 registrations, and whose organizing committee is chaired by Juan Manuel Afonso, director of the Aquaculture Research Group (GIA) of ECOAQUA. Also participating in this committee are Marisol Izquierdo López, vice-rector of Research and Transfer and professor specialized in Aquaculture of the ULPGC, who is also a member of GIA, and Nieves González-Henríquez, doctor in Marine Biology and director of research in Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Marine Sciences of the ULPGC.

Lluís Serra, rector of the ULPGC, will take part in the inauguration, accompanied by Humberto Villarreal, president of the World Aquaculture Association, and Manuel Barange, director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the FAO, as well as by some rectors of other ibero-american universities.

The inaugural conference will be given by François Simard, fisheries advisor to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (UICN), and will be entitled: ‘Aquaculture and Nature Conservation, current trends and innovative approaches’.

Professors, researchers, students, professionals, aquaculture and fishing industry associations, NGOs and the general public can still apply for registration through the official website of the event and have free access to all the activities included in the program.
