The main headquarters of ECOAQUA is located in Taliarte, Telde (Gran Canaria), where it has 5,852 m2 distributed in three buildings, in addition to offshore ocean cages. The first of these buildings is located within the Marine Science and Technology Park (PCTM) of the ULPGC. The second building is the Complementary Module-1 of the PCMT, and the third one is the building of the Aquaculture and High Specialisation Biotechnology Service (SABE) which is placed within the Port of Taliarte, where the ocean cages are also located. It is in these facilities where the researchers assigned to the GIA and BIOCON groups conduct their main work.
The Techonological Scientific Park Building, is used for functions such as, the maintenance of specimens of different species of breeder (amberjack, sea bream, sea bass, etc.), reproduction and collection of eggs of the species, improvement of reproduction using diets with different feeds, photoperiod control, fish fattening and bioassay with bacteria.
In the Complementary Module-1, larval culture, preweaning, weaning and auxiliary cultures of rotifers, artemia and phytoplankton are carried out. It is also used for grow-out of juvenile fish, grow-out of tilapia, grow-out of abalone, abalone reproduction, larval experiments and auxiliary diatom culture. The research carried out here, as in the previous facilities, is integrated into the Aquatic Species Production Service (AQUAEXEL), provided by the Institute.
Within the SABE it is possible to find chromatography, biochemistry, histology, quality, cell culture, molecular biology and image analysis laboratories, as well as rooms common to the laboratories such as the microscopy, freezing and centrifugation room.
