ABOUT RESPONSE OF TOURISM COMPANIES TO THE RESTRUCTURING OF THE SECTOR: BETWEEN THE CRISIS AND THE NEXT GENERATION EU PLAN

Response of tourism companies to the reorganisation of the sector: Between the crisis and the Next Generation EU Plan, with the acronym RCT, is a 19-month project that aims to address the main challenges facing the tourism sector after the paralysis and subsequent slowdown of the economy due first to Covid-19 and then to the war in Ukraine. Faced with this transcendental moment, which forces us to evolve towards new models, the aim is to offer solutions and alternatives to help this transition, both in the field of the different aspects of business activity and in the reorganisation of the tourism companies themselves, in particular.

Project objectives

The RCT project aims to achieve the following objectives:

-Propose viable legal solutions for the recovery of tourism activity on the basis of a paradigm shift.

- To address the new insolvency regulations in order to reduce business insolvencies in the sector.

- Improve the quality of employment contracts, especially for women.

- Take advantage of the synergies of environmental and digital resources for the transformation of the sector.

These objectives are developed, in turn, through the different lines indicated below:

a) New strategies in the tourism sector.

b) Legal challenges in the field of employment.

c) Legal responses to corporate insolvency.

d) Ecological transition: sustainability and the circular economy.

e) Digital transformation.

The project is led by the University Institute for Research in Sustainable Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (ECOAQUA), which has the collaboration of researchers from the University of Cordoba, the University of Granada and the National University of Distance Education (UNED).

This initiative is funded through the project entitled ‘Promoting research, development and innovation at the ULPGC’, within the framework of the grant awarded to the Fundación Canaria Parque Científico Tecnológico (FCPCT) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Development Funds.
