PhD in Oceanography and Global Change
The PhD in Oceanography and Global Change at the ULPGC is one of the only two Oceanography PhD programmes available in Spain. It began as the PhD in Biological Oceanography (1992) and in the period 2005-2010 it received the Special Mention for Quality from the National Quality Assessment Agency. In the years 2006-2013, it was taught in collaboration with the Institut de Ciències Marines del CSIC (Barcelona) in Barcelona and Las Palmas. It aims to cover research education (both basic and applied) that enhances the doctoral student¿s ability to understand any of the research areas that form a part of the programme. The programme facilitates the collaboration of students on oceanographic campaigns around the archipelago¿s waters so they may see first-hand the work of an oceanographer on a ship equipped for the task. Consequently, the training of a future Doctor in Oceanography is focused on real cases of local (Canary Islands) and international importance.
